I tested an experimental AI image generation prompt designed to preserve facial identity from a reference photo while changing the scene, pose, clothing control, lighting, and photographic style.

The Question Behind This Experiment

This experiment started with a simple question: can a detailed AI image generation prompt preserve the recognizable identity of people from a reference photograph while creating a completely different photographic scene?

Instead of using a short instruction such as “make a realistic couple photo”, I built the prompt in several layers. Identity comes first, followed by pose and interaction, getup and dress, environment, lighting, camera characteristics, texture and finally instructions designed to reduce common image-generation errors.

The goal was not to create a magic formula. I wanted to see how much control could be achieved by describing the important visual elements more precisely.

The experiment in one sentence Preserve the people as closely as possible while placing them inside a new, carefully controlled photorealistic scene.

Step 1 — The Reference Image

The original photograph is used as the primary visual reference. The prompt specifically asks the image model to retain recognizable facial characteristics instead of treating the photograph only as general inspiration.

Step 2 — Full AI Image Generation Prompt

Here is the complete experimental prompt. It is intentionally displayed inside a scrollable prompt viewer so the entire instruction can be read and copied without making the page extremely long.

Preserve both faces as closely and faithfully as possible to the reference, including face shape, eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips, jawline, skin tone, natural asymmetry, age appearance, facial hair and distinctive features. Keep their expressions natural, candid and emotionally believable. Do not redesign, beautify, merge or replace their identities.

The clothing instructions are separate from the pose instructions. This makes it easier to reuse the same reference image prompt while experimenting with different outfits or maintaining the original clothing.

Step 3 — The Tested Result

This is where the experiment becomes more useful than simply publishing the prompt. The image below is the actual test result I am using to evaluate how well the instructions work together.

How I Built the Prompt

When I first looked at the prompt, it felt a little long. But every part was there for a reason.

I wasn't just telling the AI to “make a realistic photo.” I wanted to guide it step by step — who the people should look like, what they should do, what they should wear, where they should be, and how the final photo should look.

Here’s how I broke it down.

01 — First, I Focused on the Faces

The most important part of this experiment was keeping the people recognizable.

So I described things like their face shape, eyes, nose, lips, skin tone, hair and other small details. The idea was simple: change the scene, but try not to change the people.

02 — Then I Explained the Pose

Next came the question: What should they actually be doing?

Instead of simply saying “make a romantic couple photo,” I explained where each person should stand, how they should move, where their hands should be and how they should look at each other.

The more clearly I described the moment, the easier it was to imagine the photo I wanted.

03 — I Tried to Keep Their Clothes the Same

I also didn't want the AI to randomly give them completely different clothes.

So I mentioned the saree, kurta, jewelry, hairstyle and other details from the original photo.

This part was important because even a small change in clothing can make the final image feel like it is showing completely different people.

04 — Then I Created the New Place

After the people and their clothes, I thought about where I wanted the photo to happen.

I described the wall, plants, shadows, sunlight and even a few dry leaves on the ground.

Instead of leaving the background up to the AI, I gave it a rough picture of the place I had in mind.

05 — I Added Some Camera Details

This is where I started thinking more like a photographer.

I added things like the camera angle, 50mm lens, aperture, lighting and composition.

I didn't expect these settings to magically make the picture perfect. I simply wanted to give the AI a better idea of what kind of photograph I was trying to create.

06 — Then I Added Small Details

Real photographs have lots of tiny details.

Skin doesn't look like plastic. Hair has individual strands. Clothes have visible fabric. Jewelry catches light.

So I added these details to make the result feel less like an AI-created picture and more like a photograph that could actually have been taken with a camera.

07 — I Also Told the AI What I Didn't Want

This part is easy to overlook.

I added instructions to avoid things like strange hands, distorted faces, plastic-looking skin and other common AI mistakes.

Of course, this doesn't mean the AI will always listen perfectly. It's more like giving it a list of things I wanted it to stay away from.

08 — Finally, I Put Everything Together

At the end, all these little instructions work together.

The face instructions try to keep the identity. The pose creates the moment. The clothing keeps the original look. The background creates the new scene. And the camera and texture details help give the image a photographic feel.

That was the whole idea behind my prompt: don't leave everything to the AI. Give it enough direction to understand the picture I had in my head.

One Important Limitation

A detailed prompt does not automatically provide perfect control. Different image-generation systems can interpret the same written instructions differently, particularly when a reference image, multiple people, physical interaction, and detailed composition are involved.

Because of that, I would not describe this as a “100% identity preservation prompt.” It is better understood as an experimental instruction set designed to improve control over an AI-generated image.
